Located in the southwest corner of the Ironwood Forest National Monument Dos Titos , 'Two Uncles', rises out of the desert into two prominent peaks with a small saddle in-between. Like most destinations in Ironwood Forest you won't find any trails, just rough 4wd roads and beautiful desert...
Not everything on the hike was beautiful desert and interesting views - Ironwood has a history of use by migrants crossing into the US from Mexico and trash in the Dos Titos area shows that legacy. The trash here was old - faded, crumbling and sad.
Notes:
- On this trip I drove into Ironwood from the Manville Road Entrance - the roads included rocky, sandy and tight wash sections so a high-clearance 4wd vehicle is advisable. I parked north of the Stone Goat Ranch and accessed Dos Titos from the east. In hindsight I would have parked sooner, as the road turns north it gets rockier and slower and it would have been nicer to have been hiking...
- Dos Titos is on Arizona State Trust Land - a Recreational Permit is required.
